Lying Bartender With a Suspended License Goes to JAIL

Around 12:44 AM on October 30, 2024, Officer Thomas Baden with the Tampa Police Department observed a silver 2022 Nissan Rogue driving without taillights in 4th Avenue East and 21st Street North. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver initially claimed that she had left work at Long Ash Cigars, a cigar lounge in Ybor City. She also claimed that she did not have a valid driver’s license and that she had left her identification at work.

When Officer Baden asked her to identify herself, she claimed that her name was Marina Trujillo and that her date of birth was April 12, 1995. However, a DHSMV check of her information revealed that her real name was Marina Estrella Trujillo and that her actual date of birth was April 12, 1998. It was also revealed that she had a prior conviction for driving with a suspended license. He returned to her vehicle and tried to confirm this information, but she once again denied having a middle name.

Based on her refusing to properly identify herself, Officer Baden placed Marina under arrest. Officer Jessica Parks was called to the scene to search Marina before she was taken to jail. A search of her vehicle incident to arrest located a small amount of cannabis inside the center console of the vehicle, but Marina was never investigated for DUI. She was eventually transported by Officer Baden to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing.

Marina was charged with the following offenses:

-Driving while license suspended (322.34(2))

-Resisting officer without violence (843.02)
