Crazy Drunk Woman Claims to be Married to Jesus Christ

On August 28, 2023 around 6:12 PM, Patrolman Christopher Badecki with the Mount Ephraim Police Department responded 855 Station Avenue on a report of a hit-and-run crash involving 1 vehicle and a street sign. As Patrolman Badecki was at the crash scene, Patrolman Stephen May located a white 2015 Toyota Prius matching the caller’s description on Sartori Avenue. He attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but she drove away.

He eventually caught up to the vehicle, and the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Patrolman May quickly apprehended the suspect in front of the Bellmawr Self Storage at 1070 Kings Highway. The suspect, later identified as Rebecca Barnes, actively resisted as Patrolman May placed her in handcuffs. He noticed that her shirt was covered in dry vomit, and she had also urinated herself. Rebecca kicked Patrolman May as he placed her inside the patrol car.

There damages to the exterior of her vehicle, indicating that she had likely just been involved in a motor vehicle accident. A search of her vehicle incident to arrest yielded the presence of multiple open containers. Her vehicle was impounded by for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law, and Patrolman Robert Bernauer remained on scene to wait for the tow truck.

Field sobriety tests were not attempted, and she was directly transported to the nearby Brooklawn Police Department for the administration of the breath test. The Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her and she initially agreed to submit breath samples. However, she was eventually charged with a refusal since she refused to cooperate when the officers asked her to blow into the machine. During her interactions with the officers, she repeatedly offered them sexual favors. She even claimed that she was married to Jesus Christ, she has been together with him for 10 years, and that they even have 900 children together.

After the officers logged her refusal at the Brooklawn Police Department, Patrolman May transported Rebecca to the Mount Ephraim Police Department for further processing. They attempted to get in touch with her emergency contacts, but none of them wanted to take responsibility for Rebecca. Since she was acting erratically, he contacted Oaks Integrated Care for a crisis screening. After she was evaluated by a crisis screener, it was determined that Rebecca would be involuntarily committed to Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill. As a result, Rebecca was transported to Jefferson Hospital and turned over to hospital staff for immediate treatment.

Patrolman May issued her the following citations:

-Operating under the influence (39:4-50)

-Consent to take samples of breath (39:4-50.2)

-Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage (39:4-129B)

-Reckless driving (39:4-96)

-Failure to report accident (39:4-130)

-Driving or parking an unregistered motor vehicle (39:3-4)

-Open container (39:4-51A.B)

She was also criminally charged with resisting arrest (2C:29-2A(1)).

Rebecca was later arrested again for Simple Assault (2C:12-1A(1)) in Gloucester City, NJ on June 27, 2025.
