Tensions Continue To Rise With Russia! Houthi Rebels Fire At US Airbase | Oh My World!

Latest News On Russia And Ukraine

Things are heating up in Russia and Ukraine, leaving us all wondering if we're on the verge of war. Russia has over 100,000 troops and tanks stationed near Ukraine's border, and diplomats' families have been evacuated. According to the US, Russia has dispatched operatives into Ukraine to cause unrest in order to give Russia a justification to invade. So, conceivably, a few mercenaries could go in and attack pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels, allowing Russia to claim that they must intervene to save the day. The UK also claims to have seen 'gloomy' intelligence suggesting that Russia is planning a lightning raid on Kiev and that Putin has appointed a pro-Russian leader to rule the country. The US has now ordered the relatives of its embassy staff to leave the nation and has advised US citizens to do the same, indicating that they are concerned about an invasion. People on the ground in Ukraine believe things are business as usual, and Putin denies any plans for an invasion. In fact, his official narrative in Russia is that he is defending Ukraine from NATO's growing dangers, not that he is producing them. The US is attempting to present a united front with European leaders and NATO, stating that if Russia invades Ukraine, they will respond with unprecedented sanctions. But we also know that Europe isn't entirely united behind this idea because if sanctions target Russia's gas industry, it will backfire on them because they buy Russian gas. And if the Europeans are forced to import gas from elsewhere, prices will rise all throughout the world. Are we prepared for that? President Biden revealed that he has deployed 8500 troops to Eastern Europe, not Ukraine, in case something goes wrong. He's also donated $200 million in arms to Ukraine's military, and other European countries are contributing guns and military equipment to help Ukraine strengthen its defenses.

Houthis Try To Attack US Airbase

Houthi rebels in Yemen targeted the US Airbase in the UAE. Along with some other sites by launching ballistic missiles which the US military and the UAE luckily intercepted. The UAE has been the target of two Houthi attacks in the last week. And they are quite serious attacks. The first two bombs exploded near the Abu Dhabi airport and a major gasoline depot, killing three people. After that, a second strike forced 2000 US troops to seek refuge in bunkers. The US military also fired back at the Houthis, releasing Patriot missiles. All of this is taking place right now as the Saudi-led coalition ramps up its attacks in Yemen. The US doesn't fight in this conflict, but we do provide intelligence and technical aid to the Saudis, as well as sell arms to them. Since President Obama joined this coalition, this has been a political hot potato for every US president. So, recently, the Saudis launched punitive airstrikes in Yemen, targeting a jail that resulted in the deaths of nearly 80 prisoners. So the Houthi assaults against the UAE were meant to be retaliation for the Saudi attack, as well as a warning that the attacks would continue until the UAE stopped. Because the UAE's economy is based on tourism and foreigners living, working, and investing there, the country does not want to be viewed as unsafe. Now, the US has hinted that the Houthi rebels may be designated as a terrorist organization. President Biden committed last year to stop US backing for the Saudi-led coalition's battle against Houthi rebels, and little has changed one year later.
