Although Bitcoin, Ethereum, Shiba Inu, and other coins have made a lot of individuals millionaires, there have also been a lot of mistakes.
None is more well-known than the tale of Laszlo Hanyecz, the man who in 2010 spent 10,000 Bitcoins on two pizzas. What was a $41 deal at the time, but is now worth $390 million in today's market?
But what about the rest of the crypto era's blunders?
A tournament for the video game Starcraft II was hosted by Starcraft Brood War Clan AoV in 2011. The first-place winner took home $1,000, according to Screenrant. But what about the places below them? From the fifth to the eighth position, each received 25 Bitcoin, which was worth around a dollar at the time. They'd each have about a million bucks right now if those mid-level gamers all held on for dear life (HODL).
In 2013, a man in Wales named James Howell threw away an outdated hard drive that contained the private keys to 7,500 Bitcoin. Howell mistook the hard drive for an old one with no files on it, according to the New Yorker, and didn't realize his error until he read a story about a man who bought an old hard drive for $27 and bought a house with the key to 5000 Bitcoins he discovered on it. And James Howell's 7500 Bitcoins may still be buried in a landfill.
