Florida is a beautiful place and my home, but it's no longer a great destination for your wallet. You might save money with no income tax, but you're going to take a bath in other ways.
Florida is no longer cheap. Miami is, in fact, more expensive than LA and Honolulu, and salaries aren't in keeping up with the cost of housing all around the state. Also, car, property, and health insurance premiums are among the most expensive in the nation.
Sales and property taxes are also very high. If you're moving from New York, of course, chances are you'll find it cheaper. But unless you're bringing a remote job with you or found a rare high-paying job in paradise, a move to Florida may improve your quality of life while decimating your wallet.
