1:45Now PlayingWelcome to a new series here on this channel called rough draft poems, a series dedicated to putting out poems that aren't perfect, but they are raw. They're rough drafts, just like you and just like me. While they may not all be autobiographical, they are all deeply felt.
This poem is called You Are Welcome Here, and it is a message to all the weary and burdened that they might find rest in Jesus. At the cross of Christ there is room for everyone. Your past mistakes do not keep you from the love of Jesus, so no matter who you are, you're welcome in the family of Jesus.
About me:
Hey! My name is Austin, and I'm a 20 year old guy with a passion for people. I believe the good news is that God is better than we could've ever hoped, and I love sharing this message of grace and love with anyone that will listen. I'm the former Digital Marketing and Video Production Coordinator at a large, evangelical church in Frederick, MD, and I'm currently a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. When I'm not writing papers or making YouTube videos, I do freelance work as a Wedding Photographer/Videographer and social media consultant. On any given day you can find me with my nose in a book or a guitar in my hands. Want to get to know me more? Follow me and say hi on Instagram at: @austin.suggs

Poem Transcript:
To all the people who sat in church parking lots
trying to muster up the courage to go in
but ended up turning around,
You are welcome here.
To the girl who gave up on God
after being told her abortion at 15
destined her to eternal damnation,
You are welcome here.
To the guy who just traded his orange jumpsuit in
for street clothes after fifteen years behind bars,
You are welcome here.
Calling all outcasts,
rejects,
too-far-gone's,
sinners,
and fallen saints.
You are welcome here,
but check your fake smiles at the door
bring your worries, pain, and hopes,
bring your tattered clothes and track-marked arms.
We've got room for your suitcases full of baggage
at the cross of Christ
because he's calling out to all those who are weary and burdened
to find rest.
Rest from the rest of your story that haunts you
an opportunity to rewrite your failures into stepping stones
on your path to glory
but your real ID is required at the gate.
No polished stories,
no airbrushed smiles
covering up the pain inside
but you are welcome here
not the you you pretend to be
but the you you've long since locked away inside.
Come out
come out from hiding
and into the light
the light of love
love that knows no bounds
that has never seen a case
exempt from the power of grace
so come and take your seat
we've prepared a place
just for you.
You are welcome here.
