7:48Now PlayingThe Minnesota United Football Club (Minnesota United FC) assembled on the Minnesota Senate Building plaza Monday, May 9, to demonstrate their skills for lawmakers and others. The Senate Tax committee is considering their 2016 omnibus tax bill, which includes a property tax exemption for a new soccer stadium.
The team was granted a major league soccer franchise in 2015, and has chosen the former Metro Transit bus barn at Snelling Avenue and Interstate 94 in St. Paul as the location for the new stadium. Eric Durkee, Director of Public Relations for the team, said that attendance at matches is over capacity at the National Sports Center in Blaine, where the team is currently playing.
St. Paul’s Mayor Chris Coleman and Senator Sandy Pappas spoke to the press about the need for a new soccer stadium while the players exhibited their skills.
