38:15Now PlayingOn a 37 -30 vote, the Minnesota Senate passed a tax bill that expands the Working Family Tax Credit, creates a new paid family medical leave program, creates a student loan credit program and extends the property tax exemption on property for a new soccer stadium in St. Paul.
Senate Republicans argued that the family medical leave program would create an expensive benefit paid by workers for very few Minnesotans. They also argued against a provision that extends the sales tax to online purchases currently not taxed.
Senate Democrats said the bill would expand the Working Family Tax Credit to over 100,000 Minnesotans. They also said the student loan credit would help curb student debt and that the paid family medical leave program would provide up to 12 weeks of partial wage replacement for workers leaving their job for medical care.
