The story began with a brutal assault of a 19-year-old Dalit girl by 4 upper caste men and was left paralyzed. The girl succumbed to her injuries and died in Delhi while she was being treated. Ever since the incident, there have been multiple theories that have come up and are revolving around this case, and the one which has gathered most eyeballs is how the Hathras case is being used to defame Uttar Pradesh and to create a situation of disharmony in the state. The centre of attention, in this case, has now become the conspiracy that the Yogi Adityanath government alleges. UP Police has filed 22 FIRs and is a statewide crackdown. Tanvi Shukla on today’s debate asks some important questions related to the Uttar Pradesh police and the different course of actions they take up in different cases. While the Uttar Pradesh police have filed 22 FIRs, and in such a short span of time, where does this quickness go when crime against women are reported.
Tanvi Shukla is joined by BJP spokesperson Sameer Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Kirubamunuswamy, Saira Shah Halim, Meeran Borwankar and Gautam Mukherjee. Kirubamunuswamy tells Tanvi Shukla that U.P is well known for caste, panchayats, which do not only allow honour killings but also order gangrape of women if they violate social norms. Gautam Mukherjee adds to this and states that in a country of 1.4 Bn people, it is expected that statistically there will be a lot of rapes. But, by committing such horrendous crime, how do these people get away with it?
