Feb 3, 20233:52Now PlayingFinance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman downplayed the threat to the Indian banking system and lenders posed by the protracted dispute between US-based short-seller Hindenburg and the Adani Group, founded by Indian business billionaire Gautam Adani. She also stated that the Indian banking system has recovered from the twin-balance-sheet crisis and is now at a comfortable level, with NPAs at historically low levels, recoveries, and a healthy position. Both the SBI and the LIC have stated that they are not overexposed. "They have stated unequivocally that their exposure (to Adani Group equities) is well within the legal limits, and that even with valuations falling, they are still profitable. That is the official word from the horse's mouth," stated FM Sitharaman.
