The Trump administration is not just targeting undocumented immigrants, it is also restricting legal immigration pathways. 🚨 In the first eight months of 2025, about 250,000 fewer visas were issued compared to the same period in 2024. That is an 11% drop across nearly every category, including students, workers, family members, and fiancés of U.S. citizens. India and China were hit the hardest, with roughly 84,000 fewer visas issued. Student visas dropped by more than 30%, and exchange visas used by foreign doctors for medical residencies declined by nearly 30,000. At the same time, the administration introduced stricter measures: • A travel ban affecting 19 countries • Paused interviews for student visas • Mandatory social media vetting for applicants • Cuts to State Department staffing, slowing processing worldwide The impact is significant. For the first time in at least fifty years, more immigrants left the United States than entered. This decline is already affecting the economy. It has been acknowledged that reduced immigration is weakening job creation, while experts warn it could also harm long-term innovation and productivity. Behind these numbers are families who waited years, even decades, for a chance to come legally, now facing a system that is slowing down or shutting them out. The message from the administration is clear: a visa is being treated as a privilege, not a right. This is a difficult moment for immigration, but it is not permanent. ⚖️ I’m Brian Manning.
