9:30Now PlayingWhat’s the best way to deal with the American billionaire/oligarchic class? While many Americans have suffered tremendously during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been a great time to be a billionaire (though, to be fair, when was that ever not the case).
By some estimates, the wealth of the American billionaire class grew by 70% during the pandemic. According to inequality.org, billionaires in the U.S. held roughly $3 trillion at the beginning of the pandemic, and that number has grown to $5 trillion now. This is more than the amount of wealth owned by the bottom 50% of U.S. households, calculated to be roughly $3 trillion.
While the fortunes of the rich grew, the pandemic ravaged the country. Almost 89 million Americans have lost jobs, over 44.9 million have been sickened by the virus, and over 724,000 have died from it. The only way to deal with a billionaire class is get rid of it.
