13:25Now PlayingIs the Biden Administration doing enough to combat climate change? The simple answer is, of course, no, but the long answer is also no. Almost no country worldwide is doing what needs to be done in order to stop the catastrophic, extinction level event, that is global warming above 1.5 degrees celsius.
World leaders are currently gathering in Glasgow Scotland for COP26, which is the 26th attempt for world leaders to come together to solve the most existential threat of our time (besides, of course, nuclear weapons). It looks like this one is probably going to end up like the last 25 of these, with lots of flowery language and commitments to solve aesthetic problems, meanwhile no real motion in tackling global CO2 emissions, or even subsidies for global south countries to industrialize in sustainable ways.
Strangely though, the Biden administration has been pressuring OPEC+ countries to increase their oil outputs in order to slow the rapid price growth in the oil sector. When in fact we need to transition to renewables NOW. The administration is self aware enough to know this runs in direct opposition to their stated goal of slowing climate change, but they’re sticking to their guns while much of the world is already suffering from the slow moving of climate change and environmental racism.
