Corporate Media Ignored These Progressive Electoral Victories

Tuesday seemed like a bad day for Democrats, especially if you live in Virginia or in one of the multiple places where a Jan 6er won elections. SMDH. It wasn’t all bad news though despite all the pundits and headlines declaring “DEMS IN DISARRAY”! Our guest John Nichols, National Affairs Correspondent at The Nation, took us through a few progressive victories from election day 2021.

Austin, Texas: Progressives voted down a measure that would have dramatically increased the size of Austin’s police force. They won 68% to 32%. Huge win.

Boston, Massachusetts: Michelle Wu, who was against police in schools, in favor of rent control, a green new deal for the city, making public transportation free, and reforming the police department, won the mayor’s office in a landslide. She also became the first female and first person of color to be elected Mayor.

And even though a measure to replace the police in Minneapolis with public safety units failed, it still got 44% of the vote which is HUGE for something so bold. Why didn’t we hear more about that?
