Jan 6 Rioters Learn About U.S. Prison System the Hard Way

For a group of people who are famous for chanting “lock her up,” this is a little ironic, no? What should the consequences be for the foot soldiers who were arrested for trying to overthrow the government?

A number of January 6th insurrectionists are currently awaiting trial in prisons around the country. Some of them have been absolutely horrified to find out what the prison industrial complex is actually like, and with good reason; no human being should be treated the way the U.S. prison system treats people.

At least one suspected insurrectionist had enough sway with law enforcement to get his prison inspected for unlivable conditions, only for the inspectors to cite another part of the prison for deficiencies, and tell the insurrectionist that he was basically in prison’s business class. This is all fine and funny, but let’s be real: the U.S. prison industrial complex is a horrific machine of violence, dislocation, and exploitation.
