Is Joe Manchin going to run for president in 2024? Nightmare scenario. What about, dare we dream, AOC?
No Labels is a nascent political party popping up across the country, funded largely by dark money billionaires who definitely don’t have an outside agenda (!), devoted to centrism and ‘bipartisanship’. They are currently working nationwide to sign up candidates and run them in upcoming elections, including potentially the 2024 presidential election.
Earlier this month we were joined by The Intercept’s Ryan Grim to talk about his book, The Squad (out now), which includes some nuggets about the group No Labels, as well as their prodigal son, soon-to-be-former Senator from West Virginia Joe Manchin. According to reports, after he suspended his senatorial campaign and began to contemplate a post-Senate life, Joe Manchin has been recruited heavily by the big money behind No Labels. Still his decision on whether to run remains unclear.
On the flip side, progressive Democrats on Capitol Hill might have possibly been trying to get Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to jump into the 2024 Presidential Primary to run a messaging campaign, similar to Bernie Sanders original reason for jumping into the 2016 campaign against its pre-ordained victor, Hillary Clinton. Seeing as the primaries have already begun, it looks like AOC wasn’t moved to try anything, but it was definitely on the table. Could she rethink it and jump in? Asking for a friend/nation.
