Just when you think Israel can’t get any more depraved in its actions, it rains missiles down on families sleeping in tents in what was deemed a “safe zone” in the city of Rafah. On the evening of Sunday May 26th Israel fired missiles upon dozens of displaced men, women and children, killing 45 and wounding 250. Babies and children’s heads were blown off from the force of the impact, and the fire that broke out took hours and multiple fire trucks to put out the blaze. The carnage was all over social media and even outlets like Sky News did detailed reports.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strike a mistake. But that’s been the official line every time the IDF bombs a place that is blatantly criminal: a refugee camp, a hospital, or children playing foosball. Sadly, even the outrage over the slaughter of innocent civilians has not slowed Israel’s assault. Within days, Israel bombed Rafah 60 times, and once again struck civilians sheltering in tents, killing 21. These are families who have been through hell for 8 months now. They have fled every so-called safe place that Israel has designated, only to be targeted in those places.
It’s crystal clear that this is not a war. There are no two opposing sides, there is no standing army that Israel is staring down. This is a genocide, which includes not just indiscriminate killing but deliberate targeting of civilians. It’s heinous and yet the U.S., the EU and Britain are somehow still supporting these atrocities.
