Recognizable from her overalls, headband, and cheery demeanor, her engaging and stimulating content from children gives parents a much needed respite. However, Ms. Rachel herself has found herself on a darker side of the internet as of late after fundraising to help starving and injured Palestinian children in Gaza.
Since October, over 14,000 children have died in Gaza. Ms. Rachel, who has 10 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 4 million followers on TikTok, used her platform to raise $50,000 for kids in Gaza, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine “and more.” Following the fundraiser, she became the target of severe targeted online harassment. Some even parodied videos of hers, splicing in devastating footage of the Oct. 7 attacks. “The bullying is bad. It's so bad, but I can handle this," said Ms. Rachel.
This isn’t the first time Ms. Rachel has been an online target. In February, she took a mental health break following conservatives attacking her nonbinary co-star Jules. Clearly, online trolls have lost the plot. "To do a fundraiser for children who are currently starving — who have no food or water — who are being killed — is human," Ms. Rachel said. “We can’t let children starve. That is not who we are.”
