30:28Now PlayingAround 1:33 AM on January 9, 2024, Corporal Gonzalez with the Tampa Police Department observed a black 2021 Audi speeding about 60 MPH down a city street in the vicinity. He initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the vicinity of N Tampa Street and E Kennedy Boulevard. This was in front of Lykes Gaslight Square Park. Corporal Gonzalez made contact with the driver, who was identified as 24-year-old Tatiana Viera.
As Officer Gonzalez was speaking with her, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment. Officer David Frueh was then called to the scene to initiate a DUI investigation. She told the Officer Frueh that she was coming from her friend’s place earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Tatiana was asked to perform field sobriety exercises.
Officer Frueh started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Frueh observed 6/6 indicators of impairment and vertical nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Tatiana did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Tatiana failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion.
Based on her erratic driving, her indicators of impairment, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Tatiana was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Tatiana was transported by Officer Frueh to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing. At the jail, she refused to submit to a breath test. She was charged with a DUI (316.193(1)(a)) and eventually released on a $500 bond pending her court appearance.
