“It is very important that we ensure that these kids have had the same opportunity,” says Liza Montelongo, executive director of the El Paso STEM Foundation. She works with the Chicas Group, a data-programming and robotics program for teen girls in the two neighboring cities. Despite language barriers, the girls come together to design and build robotics projects — and to reinforce the idea that being smart can be cool.
