We’ve been seeing Ted Cruz in the media a lot recently, and with that comes to ultimate online jest, the meme. But does Ted Cruz deserve all of the memeification that he’s been getting?
To help with this discussion we brought in friends of Bold Christian Watson, host of Pensive Politics, and Nate Lerner, Executive Director at Build The Wave.
Nate Lerner starts off by saying that we should realize that Ted Cruz is probably one of the most public facing figures in the Republican Party, and loves the attention he gets. And on the surface this scandal is what it is. There was a state-wide disaster in Texas that occured and he left his home state in the middle of that crisis while also being a senator of that state. The optics alone are horrendous, let alone the morality.
Christian Watson says that first and foremost, memes lack context. He agrees that the optics were terrible for Ted Cruz, but that being said Ted Cruz didn’t do anything materially damaging by not being in Texas physically himself.
