Today we’re bringing to you a throwback Millennial Minute with a question that’s still worth repeating. When political candidates campaign against each other, should their family members be off limits?
To help us answer this question, we bring in AJ Swinson, Chief of Staff at the New Journey PAC, and David Aronov, New York City Council Candidate.
We first hear from David Aronov who is currently running in a campaign right now! He starts off by saying that at the local race it’s inappropriate and distracts voters from the issues at hand.
AJ Swinson says that voters still need to know what’s going on, and that doesn’t mean they will use that info to sway their vote. Voters will still vote based on the issues, not the family members, using Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden as an example.
David Aronov also says that you need to make sure you separate your personal work from your professional work, and if you’re looking at the lives of the personal family and it doesn’t affect the professional race, then it’s distracting. Going back to Hunter Biden’s life, focusing on his substance abuse is distracting from the real issues at hand.
Both agree that in the end it's a fine line to walk.
