Layoffs, layoffs, layoffs!

Is print dead and what is the future of media?

Media companies are laying off their employees left and right. With everything going to digital media, newspaper jobs have gone down by more than 50% since 2008.

Even the digital giants like Buzzfeed can’t keep up. Buzzfeed just bought Huffpost from Verizon Media, and the first thing they did was lay off 30% of the Huffpost US workers, and close the Canada office. Not to mention how in 2019, before Buzzfeed bought Huffpost, they laid off many many employees including their entire national desk!

How can media companies (especially print media) make money in this day and age? We know that anyone can just log on to Twitter and Facebook, and instantly find out what they need to know.

Not only that, but digital media and print media are both completing with the fake news machine. How can these companies withstand the fake news, when those companies don't need to pay employees for fact checking? All they need is clickbait and a buzzy headline.

Who can readers trust?

One upside are the smaller independent companies that are fighting trustworthy news to be brought to the millennial and gen z generations. And that's where we come in.
