8:32Now PlayingAre you a 90s kid? Do you remember the TV commercials that were geared towards 90s kids? Those 90s TV commercials had kids wanting every latest toy. But should ads for children be banned?

To help us answer this question with Julia Sun is Denise Albert, founder of TheMoms.com, and Nate Hochman, contributor at Young Voices.
We know that it’s impossible to escape advertising nowadays with the rise of internet ads, but how much of an effect do ads have on kids? Denise Albert talks about how ads affect her children directly when, for example, her teenage son is DM’d by a brand on Instagram in the guise of collaborating. With so many social media platforms and internet ads out there, it’s a tough road to try and avoid ads for children if at all. But is internet regulation possible?
Nate Hochman says that the devil is in the details, and agrees with Denise Albert that something must be done even if an all out ban isn’t something that is possible. Internet regulation is a very tricky subject, if at all possible, as it’s a very different situation than airwaves on the radio for instance. With that said, we also know that something must be done ASAP.
Nate Hochman goes on to talk about how much of a mental health toll these ads have taken on an entire generation of kids. Mental Health Awareness is reason enough that this is something that must be addressed, yesterday.
What do you think about internet ads and ads for children? Is this something that isn’t very effective, or is it really an urgent issue of mental health awareness? Let us know in the comments below!
