Joining David Grasso today is AJ Swinson, the Chief of Staff at New Journey PAC, and Christian Watson, host of the Pensieve Politics podcast.
What does the Republican Party need to do to reach minority voters, specifically black women? According to AJ Swinson, black women care about what anyone cares about. They care that their families are safe and that their kids can get a good education. The GOP needs to simply talk to black women about this. It’s not rocket science to talk to black women about safety in neighborhoods, police reform, school choice, etc.
Is the GOP going down a rabbit hole that they can’t get out of? According to Christian Watson, they can still turn around. When catering only to members of the Republican Party like Majorie Taylor Greene and ideals that border conspiracies, the GOP is detaching itself from its original moral vision about the freedom of the individual and how the original operates in society. There are a lot of issues that concern minority voters that the GOP wants to talk about, like police reform for instance, and they can. They just need to make sure they remain focused on their original moral vision.
Is there room in the Republican Party for the never trumpers? AJ Swinson says there definitely is room for never trumpers! She says that it’s right to call out what you believe is wrong, like The Lincoln Project calling out Trump being held to a higher standard especially when he was President Trump. But that being said, the Republican Party needs to come together under principles and not under personalities.
Christian Watson agrees that there is room for never trumpers, but it shouldn't simply be about a single person or idea, like Trump of the idea of Trump.
What do you think is the future of the Republican Party? Where is the GOP headed? Should never trumpers be in the picture? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
