The supposed Columbus, Ohio-based high school team Bishop Sycamore faced Florida-based IMG Academy on ESPN. This was supposed to be an intense game between two powerhouse football teams. Instead, it was a major blowout.
IMG Academy beat Bishop Sycamore, 58 to 0. However, with a closer look at Bishop Sycamore’s program, many questions arose. There was no trace of Bishop Sycamore existing anywhere: no affiliation with a Catholic Church or any Bishop Sycamore listed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) school directory.
The team was completely made up and a group of failed junior college players. They had no campus and were staying in a hotel located in Delaware, Ohio. The fake athletic director and coach Roy Johnson paid for everything with bounced checks. Now, there are several arrest warrants out for the coach.
If you think it’s crazy that they did this once, Bishop Sycamore actually played two games in one weekend! They tricked another major high school program Sto-Rox to play them just 48 hours before their ESPN broadcast.
