39:47Now PlayingThe Minnesota Senate gave its final approval to a bill Tuesday, May 17, that would allow a judge to alter spousal maintenance support based on the obligee's cohabitation with another person. Under current law, people who get divorced may be required to pay alimony to continue supporting their spouse. Courts can currently alter the support for married obligees.
Under the measure, sponsored by Senator Michelle Benson, R-Ham Lake, the courts could consider the economic benefit the oblige derives from the cohabitation and the likely future duration of the cohabitation.
