2:06Now PlayingOn Friday, two people died of asphyxiation while cleaning a sewage tank inside the Tamil Nadu Secretariat complex's MES Army office. Two teams from the Secretariat and Esplanade fire stations were pressed into action by officials from the fire and rescue services department. After an hour of effort, the teams pulled both of them out of the pool. A department employee said five staff were involved in the job.
Both were pronounced dead at the Army hospital on the same campus by doctors, the officer said. The spot was visited by police officers from Fort St George police station. Police were initially refused entry because the incident occurred on Army land. Army officials took the necessary steps and later reported the incident to the police.
