Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora held a press briefing, announcing the poll dates for all the five states which will be witnessing Assembly elections this year. While West Bengal elections will be conducted in 8 phases, Puducherry, Kerala, & Tamil Nadu will be having elections in one phase only. Assam ,on the other hand, will be conducting elections in three phases. These elections are very crucial, given that a lot of events are happening simultaneously, including the farmers' protest and a re surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Following the press briefing of EC, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee held a press conference, and commented on the eight phase polling. TMC Supremo lashed out at the BJP and the Election Commission for joining hands in giving out a decision of 8 phases elections in the state of West Bengal.
TMC supporter Manojit Mandal states that the state of West Bengal has been systematically targeted by the Central government.
