3:52Now PlayingOn Friday, the government of Karnataka registered its strong opposition to neighboring Tamil Nadu taking up an interconnection project aimed at using surplus water from the Cauvery inter-state river, saying that it will harm the interests of the state and fight it legally.
Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi and Law and Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai met with the state"s legal team on the interstate water dispute, the state Attorney General, technical team, and other senior officials to make the decision. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami laid the groundwork for the first phase of the Rs 14,400 crore Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar river interlinking project, which aims to channel over 6,000 cubic feet of surplus water to drier areas in the state's southern districts.
