In the United States, if you're in a heteronormative marriage or partnership where women are working prior to having the child, it’s pretty typical for women to go back to work after three months of maternity leave. That is if you’re lucky enough to have it.
Three months is basically the absolute maximum amount of time that our country has deemed socially acceptable for women to take, but in the context of the rest of the world this is a neglectfully short period of parental leave. After three months, your child is still small and helpless and entirely dependent on others for literally anything. They’re also starting to be more alert and are cute as hell. In Scandinavia, parents have one year of parental leave forgodsakes! That should definitely be the direction in which our country moves.
