After nearly 150 of striking, Hollywood writers reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Sept. 26.

Though there is still a membership vote to ratify the agreement next week, it seems as though writers strike is over. Writers won on many of their demands. For example, according to NBC, the new contract sets minimum staff requirements for shows of between 3-6 writers and a work time starting at 10 weeks. Additionally, in the new contract, if a TV series is viewed by 20% or more of a streaming service’s views within the first 3 months of the years, the writers get an extra 50% of the residuals. Additionally, streaming services like Netflix will have to share data on how well some shows are doing.

Finally, writers also won big on many of their AI demands. For example, if a writer is asked to tweak an AI written script, their rewrite will still be considered an original script. Basically AI cannot write a script ‘on its own.’

Following the end of the strike, late night TV will return to air with shows like “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” air live by Monday. And while the actors are still wrapping their negotiations, writers can now go back to work AND join their comrades still on the picket line.
