While Netanyahu calls for Palestinians to evacuate Gaza and the Israeli Defense Minister we are fighting “human animals,” Palestinians are facing an absolute siege. The Israeli government continues to use genocidal rhetoric against Palestinians, denying their humanity to justify waging war on millions for the actions of a few.
Meanwhile, celebrities, politicians, and friends have been asking us to stand with Israel and as of Tuesday more than 900 Israelis had been killed. The murder of innocent civilians is absolutely wrong, and we must stand opposed to it. However, when a country cuts an entire population off from water, power, and internet and begins to bomb them relentlessly -- we must acknowledge the difference in structural power. That difference is occupation.
70% of Palestinians are refugees whose families were expelled in 1948. One might ask why haven’t Palestinian’s protested peacefully for the right to return? They have. In 2018, Palestinians participated in the Great March of Return, Israel responded by killing 217 peaceful Palestinian protestors and injuring 36,000.
This war has been being waged for years, its only intensifying.
