Bill Maher and Drew Barrymore FAIL In Running Their Shows Without Writers

How do you write a television show with no writers? Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher tried to find out.

Last week, America’s sweetheart Drew Barrymore announced that she’d be bringing her talk show back to air despite the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. She said that she wouldn’t be crossing any picket lines, and to do so she would have had to write the show herself. The program briefly resumed filming with picketlines and online fanfare calling Drew out for her behavoir. She responded by initially doubling down, then, by recording a crying apology video and classic Instragram apology calling for “a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”

Around the same time, America’s sourpuss Bill Maher said his show “Real Time is coming back, unfortunately, sans writers or writing,” stating “it has been five months, and it is time to bring people back to work.” Maher had some semblance of sanity when he also declared “the show will be doing without my writers will not be as good as our normal show, full stop.” However, the premise of trying to pull it off in the first place in the middle of this labor dispute is the behavoir of a boss, not of a comrade.

Within a week, Maher took it all back stating that he changed his mind now that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and writers are meeting at the bargaining table.
