12:56Now PlayingWhat’s it going to take for the U.S. to call for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East? After just under a week of a ‘humanitarian pause’ in the Middle East, Israel has begun striking Gaza once again. Instead of calling for a permanent ceasefire, Biden and many politicians advocated for a “humanitarian pause” to allow for a prisoner and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas.
The fighting resumed after several different exchanges of Gazan prisoners, especially women and children, and hostages taken on Oct 7th.
Meanwhile, while the ‘ceasefire’ and freeing of prisoners went down, Israel continued to arrest hundreds in the West Bank. In truth, the push for hostage release also came mostly from the families themselves, who have been outspoken in their criticism of Israel and Netanyahu, more than nearly any US politician. Now the US is plainly falling in line with the narrative that Hamas ‘undid’ the truce and is not to be trusted and is therefore to blame for civilian deaths to follow.
Israel’s war has no reasonable logic and is killing thousands, can we really be surprised that a pause isn’t working?
