Israel Knew Hamas Would Attack, Why Didn’t They Prevent It?

We now know that Israeli officials had possession of Hamas's plan for the October 7 terrorist attack over a year before it occurred, according to documents, emails, and interviews obtained by the New York Times.

The 40-page document, code-named "Jericho Wall," detailed in precision a plan to breach the wall at 60 points and storm into Israel, utilizing rockets, drones, and gunmen using paragliders, and motorcycles. Despite having this warning, Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as impractical, deeming it too challenging for Hamas to execute.

For some on this side of the Atlantic, the story sounds familiar. “The Israeli intelligence failure on Oct. 7 is sounding more and more like our 9/11,” said a retired senior C.I.A. official.

The investigation also found that Israeli officials have agreed in private that they could have reduced the severity of the death toll or prevented the event altogether if they had taken the plan seriously. So why didn’t they do something? Well, perhaps because some in the Israeli intelligence community saw October 7 as a way to take the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and have it be “justified.”
