8:05Now PlayingManchin is leaving the Senate and will not run for reelection in 2024.
Now some pundits are betting that he’ll run for president against Biden. Manchin won’t rule out a third-party run for president, adding to the rumors. He’d possibly run on with the No Label group. No Labels has already qualified for the ballot in 12 states and expects to be on the ballot in 16 others by the end of 2023.
Manchin says he may not leave politics completely and he will be "traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle." This language sounds similar to No Labels who believes that Democrats are the radical left and Republicans are the radical right.
He leaves behind a legacy of being an obstacle to nearly all money spending in the Senate, especially for progressive issues. Now his impact is felt throughout the Biden agenda. He famously shaped and reshaped Build Back Better, ruining it in December 2021 and reshaping it over time to create carveouts for himself and fossil fuels.
What do you think is Manchin’s next move?
