9:09Now PlayingVirginia Attorney General, Mark Herring, has revoked the concealed carry (CCW) reciprocity agreement with 25 states that do not meet Virginia's safety standards. Now, there are only six states that that have tough enough laws to maintain their reciprocity agreement with Virginia. They are: Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and West Virginia. So this means, if you do not come from the aforementioned six states, the concealed carry permit you have in the state you live will not be valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
For those who want to conceal-carry in Virginia that do not live in a state with a reciprocity agreement, they will need to obtain a concealed carry permit application from the circuit court in Richmond via phone, email, or letter. After they receive the application package in the mail, they will need to fill it out under oath, under the witness of a notary public, and they will need to provide their fingerprints with the included finger print capture device, mail that off back to Richmond, and wait up to 60 days to get their concealed carry permit in the mail.
This seems like an un necessary process, with revocation of some states not making any sense. North Carolina has a more stringent process to obtain a concealed carry permit. One must take physical classroom lessons, range time, then go through a background check and a mental health check by a psychiatrist. Yet, they were among the states revoked because of Herring's fears of their state, among others, allowing "drug dealers, people with history of stalking, and people with a history of mental health" to obtain a concealed carry permit.
