Did you take advantage of low interest rates this year and become a new homeowner, or are you finally getting around to tackling that DIY quarantine project? Before you get started here’s some tips you need to know.
First, note that there is currently a supply shortage for often used home renovation items like lumber. This lumber shortage is due to issues with shipping in 2020, as well as the higher amount of wildfires that have been occurring. Low on supply means high demand as lumber prices are rising.
In Oregon alone we lost enough lumber to build 1 million homes, thanks to the Oregon wildfires. Another reason why lumber prices are skyrocketing.
And it’s not only lumber, but windows and doors are hard to find right now for home renovation. Part of the problem is demand, as people bought up everything they could find in 2020. The problem is also due to the low amount of window and door manufacturers in America. So if you’re thinking of switching careers, it might not be a bad time to consider making custom windows and doors as you’re bound to find many many clients.
What appliances? With everyone in 2020 becoming amateur chefs and buying new ovens, air fryers, etc, there’s currently a shortage of appliances, and prices are rising. But, that being said there’s a market out there now for used appliances. So if you don’t mind a next-to-new appliance with a few scratches or dents, you’re in luck.
