Joining Shay Sayss today is Ravi Roth, travel expert host of Gaycation Travel Show. He’s here to tell us all about summer travel 2021, and pride month 2021, and how different it is this year.
How is Pride Month 2021 now that we’re opening up?
Places like Brooklyn Pride are definitely small but mighty and filled with amazing vibrance. In other places there might be a bit of a pride festival or pride protest, as well, but we might or might not see the pride parades that we’re used to. Overall, the world is coming back slowly but surely.
How did you start the Gaycation Travel Show?
We were in lockdown in 2020, and saw how people have lost their sense of purpose. Ravi Roth also was experiencing no trips or opportunities, we were stuck at home. And when he went on a visit to LA, he saw that Gaycation Magazine was looking to begin a project and was looking for hosts. Ravi Roth reached out and auditioned, and then got the job.
Gaycation Travel Show originally wanted to LGBTQ travel all around the world, but 2020 made that very difficult. But, now the show is focusing on how different places are looking at how places are opening back up.
What is your favorite moment of the Gaycation Travel Show?
Ravi Roth says that he was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and saw how there was only one queer bar. And he saw how the LGBTQ people there wanted to make sure there was a community for those that are in Cedar Rapids, and those interested in making Cedar Rapids part of their LGBTQ travel.
Any travel tips for Summer 2021 travel?
Definitely! Within the country or international, be respectful of their culture and be understanding of their rules. And overall, just have fun! Make the most of it! Even the drive by cities (like Cedar Rapids Iowa) have a lot to offer for a great gaycation.
