The US basketball team had its first Olympic loss since 2004, but most people on social media said they didn’t even watch the game!
Not only that, but the 2021 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony saw its lowest viewerships in over 3 decades.
People just aren’t watching the game online, but watching highlights of the Olympics online, and this makes sense! People (especially young people and gen z) aren’t working live events anymore, and instead turning to Netflix and other streaming services like Peacock, NBC’s response to streaming services.
Is live broadcasting on television outdated? Especially when we just follow Olympic athletes on Twitter or TikTok for their behind the scenes updates?
