The issue of unaffordable gas is the top concern among voters.
It's quite straightforward. The pain at the pump has no justification. Politicians have a tremendous problem with $5 gas, and most people aren't very political.
They don't have much time to watch cable news or obsess about what Trump or Biden have said. They're only trying to feed their families and keep their cars running. And when a Honda Civic costs more than $80 to fill up in Los Angeles right now, you know you've got a major problem.
The economy is not within the authority of politicians. They'd like you to believe that they have influence over gas prices, but they don't. When gas prices rise, though, they continue to get the brunt of the criticism.
Politics is easy. It's the economy stupid. That's the message that got Bill Clinton elected president. And any politician who concentrates on the economy has a higher chance of winning. High gas prices for such a long time will land a lot of politicians in hot water.
