It was the micro-USB, then the USB-C, and now it's the USB-C. There are also lightning cables, multi-chargers, 2A ACs, DC, and mini-USB connectors, which is excessive.
So, should all of our devices have standard ports? And who is responsible for enforcing the rules?
The European Union recently agreed that by 2026, all computers, phones, speakers, and other electronic devices will be required to have the same USB-C charging connector.
According to the New York Times, officials are reducing electric waste by implementing standard charging ports. They estimate that unused and broken chargers generate 11,000 tons of waste each year.
Standardizing ports would allow you to maintain your existing chargers when you upgrade your device rather than paying an extra $20 because the company decided to change the port on the new edition.
Of course, other companies, such as Apple, were against the verdict, claiming that it would impede their capacity to develop charging technology.
