Higher education requirements are luring Millennials and Gen Z into student debt.
Younger generations have been taught that a master's degree is the new bachelor's degree, and thousands of people have gone into debt to obtain one.
And guess what? Many of them are discovering it isn't worth it. According to Insider, the average student with a bachelor's degree graduates with a debt of $32,000.
Graduates with a master's degree have an average debt of $65,000. And many young people with master's degrees and twice as much debt are discovering that it wasn't worth risking their future for this degree.
For some, it does pay off, like lawyers and doctors, who gain from additional schooling and are compensated accordingly.
However, most master's grads discover that they are overeducated, and they now owe 26 percent of all student debt just as their jobs begin.
There's nothing wrong with trying to improve yourself via education, but in many cases, collecting debt for a higher degree is a bad idea.
