17:17Now PlayingThe Senate DFL Education Committee presented their 2016 top priorities at a press conference on Monday, March 21.
One of their priorities, The Teacher Shortage Act, seeks to create an electronic teacher job board, to establish grants to student teachers in shortage areas, to create a paraprofessional pathway to teacher licensure, to offer loan forgiveness programs, and to expand Q Comp for all schools.
Other Senate DFL education initiatives included increasing support for agricultural education, allocating more professional development funding, improving student support services, such as chemical dependency counselors, psychologists and social workers, and expanding access to high quality pre-kindergarten for 4-year-olds.
