4:28Now PlayingIndia is currently facing the worst locust swarm attack in decades, with the menace presently affecting five states majorly impacting agriculture in Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It has caused insurmountable damage to agricultural produce as local authorities scramble to bring the menace under control. In a bid to control the second wave of locust attack in the Barmer district, the administration has asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to help in receiving information on the location of the swarms. The BSF has also been roped in to assist in spraying pesticides in collaboration with the municipal bodies. Rajasthan Agriculture Department in Jaipur has begun using drones to track the movement of the locusts in the pink city. The technology is helping the monitoring of barely accessible and difficult to reach terrains. Villagers in different states have adopted unique measures to combat the menace including banging vessels to drive the insects away.
