as posted by the channelWhat is click bait? What is fact checking needed for?
Well, to put it simply, it’s easy for fake news to spread and it’s even easier to profit off of it.
Our Bold host David Grasso explains the very troubling issue with fake news.
On social media, people tend to limit their news exposure to the few sources that align with their values, especially regarding politics. And when a few people in a group fall prey to fake news, the rest of the community will soon follow because they have always considered their group to be reliable.
Reporting fake news works in the same way as reporting news and facts. Fake News reporters will do what they can do to get more clicks and make more money, by profiting off of advertisers on their websites. A recent study even found ads for big name brands, like Amazon, OfficeMax, and Sprint, rely on misinformation and clickbait.
Even Google has supported the use of fake news sites.
Needlessly to say, a lot of work needs to be done regarding what needs to be done.
