Every year it feels like the summer is lasting longer and longer while Autumn is lasting less and less. Experts from the National Academy of Sciences say the temperatures will only continue to rise. As a result, increasing the number of humans exposed to health-endangering heat. As the human body overheats, it can become dehydrated, causing the blood to thicken and forcing the heart to pump harder.
Even for the healthiest of people, high levels of heat stress can cause disruptions in the body’s natural cooling system. At this rate, we are expecting more hospital visits for exhaustion and heat stroke.
The National Academy of Sciences found that the overall heat exposure in urban areas increased by nearly 200% and affecting more than 1.7 billion people since the 1980s. This is a quarter of the world’s population. While changes in temperature varied from city to city, most changes in temperature were traced back to global warming.
