What distinguishes the top two cryptocurrencies, Ethereum and Bitcoin?

There is a significant disparity between the two biggest cryptos, and even though the future of cryptocurrencies is still up in the air, many people are still jumping on the hype train in the hopes of scoring a moon shot.

Currently, the value of Bitcoin is approximately $23,000, and the price of Ether is roughly $1600.

One of the main distinctions is that there is a fixed amount of 21 million Bitcoin, of which 18 million are now in circulation. Since there is a finite amount of Bitcoin, it is known as "digital gold" since once it is all mined, there will be no more available unless you purchase it.

Either has a yearly limit of 18 million but has an infinite supply and Ethereum Blockchain is also undergoing a change from proof of work algorithms to proof of stake. Essentially instead of mining, Ethereum will use people who stake their Ether to work as nodes in the network instead of the miners, which is much better for the environment.

This change should reduce Ethereum's energy consumption by 95%.

It uses less energy to create other cryptocurrencies on its network, such as Shiba Inu or NFTs.

Because Bitcoin has no plans to change, miners will still need to remain online to maintain the network and will be compensated with transaction fees rather than additional coins.
