as posted by the channelNearly 80 percent of Americans believe that the cost of prescription drugs is unreasonable. Biden is making it a mission to follow through on lowering drug prices before election day.
This August the Biden administration announced that they will negotiate prices of 10 medications with Medicare, just one of the presidents plans to lower drug costs for Americans including capping insulin at $35.
After Congress passed the very debated Inflation Reduction Act last year, Medicare gained the authority to negotiate the price of some prescription medicines. These specific 10 medicines would hopefully only the start but they taken by millions of especially older Americans to treat cancer, diabetes, Crohn’s, arthritis, and more. In response Big Pharma is fighting back with specific companies filing lawsuits: Astellas Pharma, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson and Merck have attempted to block the Biden administration’s actions.
Notably, another president also promised to lower drug prices: Donald Trump. Trump even went so far as to pass the executive order “Lowering Drug Prices by Putting America First” at the end of his term. However, some say it delivered too little too late and only.
Could Biden pick up where Trump left off and win over Americans?
